Leading outdoor brands tell us why they’re integrating RECCO technology into their latest winter gear

The year-round popularity of outdoor activities is accelerating at a rapid pace across the globe. More and more outdoor brands are integrating RECCO technology into their product lines to ensure searchability for rescuers in outdoor environments during both summer and winter seasons.

Stockholm, Sweden – October 3, 2018 – With the expansion of the RECCO network across the globe during the past decades, we asked leading outdoor brand partners why they chose to adapt RECCO technology in their latest winter product lines.

For many brands, the push to develop products that allow searchability in complex terrain and avalanches is driven by an increasing consumer demand for technology that adds an additional layer of safety in outdoor environments.

Safety is becoming an increasingly important priority in developing outdoor equipment and “Recco is a natural fit. I don’t think you can put a rank on safety, I think you should take every tool possible,” said Glen Morden, Sr. Director of Product Innovation at Patagonia.

Outdoor adventurers are actively seeking technology combinations to add another layer of safety to their experience and brands are listening. “Any chance that increase the chances of being found out there is a good chance,” said Daniel Rietzler, Product Line Manager, Protective & Gear at Atomic.

RECCO is proud of its long term product collaborations with top brands like Patagonia, Ortovox, Mountain Hardwear, Millet, Bergans and Atomic, which demonstrate an ongoing commitment to making people more searchable in the outdoors.

RECCO® advanced rescue technology makes outdoor enthusiasts searchable to rescuers in case of an avalanche accident or when lost in the outdoors. The technology builds on a two-part radar system. Rescuers carry RECCO® detectors that send out search signals which are echoed by RECCO® reflectors, carried by the user. RECCO® detectors are used worldwide at more than 900 ski resorts and mountain rescue organizations in 28 countries. RECCO® reflectors are integrated into select apparel, helmets, protection gear and boots manufactured by more than 150 leading outdoor brands. RECCO AB was founded in 1983 in Sweden and is owned by its founder Magnus Granhed and the publicly traded investment company Traction AB (listed on OMX Nordic Exchange Stockholm).
