Mountain Guides In Zermatt Endorse RECCO Reflectors To Make More People Searchable In The Mountains

In a joint effort to enhance safety in the mountains RECCO has entered into a partnership with the ZERMATTERS. This relationship seeks to make more people aware about safety in the mountains and the importance of being searchable with RECCO reflectors year-round.

The RECCO system has been used by rescue professionals for avalanche rescue in Zermatt for more than 30 years. In 2015, Air Zermatt was the first rescue team to implement the innovative RECCO SAR helicopter detector technology to search for missing persons all year round.

"We are excited to enter this partnership with RECCO. Adding a reflector to our safety briefings with our clients helps and enhances the importance of safety when hiking, climbing, skiing and touring in the mountains,” says Beat Wälti, CEO ZERMATTERS.

The new initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of being searchable in the mountains, and how RECCO reflectors complement other equipment such as a transceiver, shovel and probe.

All guides of the ZERMATTERS and the ski instructors will be equipped with RECCO reflectors as part of their equipment, making them searchable to professional rescue teams. Through the partnership with the guides from Zermatt, guests and visitors in Zermatt are informed first-hand about the importance of being searchable and RECCO technology.

“The journey of RECCO actually started in Zermatt in the 80s, where the system was first developed to a great extent. Now collaborating with the ZERMATTERS is a real milestone for us, being an organization many people turn to for information and education about safety in the mountains,” says Fredrik Steinwall, CEO at RECCO.

RECCO® advanced rescue technology makes outdoor enthusiasts searchable to rescuers in case of an avalanche accident or when lost in the outdoors. The technology builds on a two-part radar system. Rescuers carry RECCO® detectors that send out search signals which are echoed by RECCO® reflectors, carried by the user. RECCO® detectors are used worldwide at more than 900 ski resorts and mountain rescue organizations in 32 countries. RECCO® reflectors are integrated into select apparel, helmets, protection gear and boots manufactured by more than 150 leading outdoor brands. RECCO AB was founded in 1983 in Sweden and is owned by its founder Magnus Granhed and the publicly traded investment company Traction AB (listed on OMX Nordic Exchange Stockholm).
